I don’t know if it is a question of white folks admitting it or not. I think for anyone to deny the fact that they are in a superior position would be naive. I’m just not sure what is to be done. It is human nature for people to want power and when they get it they don’t willingly give it up. If circumstances were reversed and the cards were stacked against whites, would blacks willingly give up the position and push for equality? Small parts of the mid to sourthern western coasts of Africa, there were tribes that sold their brothers and sisters as goods and trade for what the white man had. But not all of them were sold, most were stolen because the white man did not want to trade or bargin for slaves, so they just cut out the middle man and stole them.

The slave trade was indeed a horrible event that effected many people and still leaves it’s mark in many societies, included American. The only point of contention that I find in your argument is within the “Who built this country”. There was a lot of people who helped build this country. If you really want to hear a startling number, only 1.4% of the population of America owned slaves at the height of slavery( Most of them in the south). Of that number, 3,000 free black men owned 20,000 slaves. That’s roughly 28% of the free black population at the time. On top of those numbers, 2/3 white people who came to America were either slaves or delivered in some sort of bondage. This country was not built on the backs of black men and woman alone. Learn your real history.

This country was built on racism. European whites came here and murdered Indians. Took land and said it was God’s intent for it to be this way. Learn your history. Slavery here was ordained by God. Blacks were meant to be slaves. For 400 years this was the belief.

I can agree with that for two reasons, I use to be a cop and i just suspected everyone was bad no matter what color. But, when i was a cop, they did tend to show “special” privi to white people more than any other race. Unless, that white person was considered “trash”. Second, race is only the distraction from what really is the problem. While race in itself is a problem, we still need to address it as such.

Did someone say that EVERYTHING boiled down to race? Of course not. But race, along with a number of other factors are still part of the equation…in the US, and ALL other countries that have ever existed. Most police abuse results from a number of factors…one is that police are trained to see themselves as soldiers and civilians as the enemy. In most other advanced countries, police are far less militaristic in their training and overall approach to the job.

My definition of racist is someone who makes generalizations and judgments based on race, so it is very possible to be racist against one’s own race. There are plenty of white people who condemn whites as a group for the actions of a few; if you doubt that check out some liberal discussions. I’ve seen it among some of my most liberal-leaning friends. We humans like to be able to put labels on things and keep them in neat little boxes. We do it when we make generalizations about people from the south or from the west coast, we do it based on age, education level, religion, income and wealth, job, weight, clothing, and we do it based on race. It is part of how we make sense of the world, but that doesn’t mean that it is always right. Especially when it allows us show favoritism and do things, consciously or not, to hurt others.
