Ben Affleck Divorces Jennifer Garner In Light of Same-Sex Marriage Legalization

LOS ANGELES (NEWSWATCH33) – The Hollywood A-list couple Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner have publicly announced their plans to divorce, a day after their 10th wedding anniversary.

“After much thought and careful consideration, we have made the difficult decision to divorce,” the couple said in a joint statement.

“We go forward with love and friendship for one another and a commitment to co-parenting our children, whose privacy we ask to be respected during this difficult time.

Rumors have circulated prior to Affleck’s plans to divorce Garner that he was gay. His bromance with Matt Damon raised eyebrows with fans since his appearance in the film, Good Will Hunting, back in 1997. Matt Damon and Ben Affleck grew up together and were friends prior to their stardom. The two have avoiding commenting in the past regarding their close relationship which raised more speculation that they were gay.

“I never denied those rumors because I was offended and didn’t want to offend my friends who were gay – as if being gay were some kind of f**ing disease. “It put me in a weird position in that sense. The whole thing was just gross,” said Damon in an interview with Playboy.

A source close to Affleck has indicated that he divorced his wife Garner because he is “tired of hiding the truth” and wants share his feelings about Matt Damon with the world.

“I no longer have to hide how I feel about my lover, Matt. He’s always been there for me, even through good and bad times in my marriage. He’s shown nothing but support and respected the fact that I was married because I was ashamed of coming out to the world. Now that same-sex marriage is legal, I intend to pursue a relationship with Matt and hopeful remarry with him,” stated by according to the source close to Affleck.

Affleck is starring as Bruce Wayne/Batman in the new Warner Bros. film, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, set to release in 2016. He hopes that by opening up about his true sexuality, it will increase box office numbers upon release of his new film.
